SD. In honor of the Mirabal Sisters, the Ministry of Culture, alongside Grupo VICINI and Banco del Progreso, restored the Peer Obelisk, with a work performed by the artist Dustin Munoz.
The work, inaugurated amid an act which took place at the Plaza Juan Barón, bears the title “Allegory to Liberty”and covers, with different characters, all four sides of the Obelisk, so it projects a different image, when observing any of its sides.
At the act, Minou Tavárez Mirabal, thanked the homage rendered to the Salcedo heroines, hoping “This Obelisk serves as a constant reminder that we still need to continue fighting, for what we are still pending to conquer”.
The music of the act was performed by the singer Claudio Cohen, together with Carmen Durán, whom performed songs allegoric to the Mirabal Sisters and the fight for freedom.
The work has a format on each side of 170 x 1.425 inches, and all four sides total 680 x 1,425 inches, thus making it the biggest mural ever displayed nationwide.
